Happy Earth Day 2-0-1-5 !

This observance of support for the environment and environmental issues always falls officially on April 22.

BUT, ever wondered how Earth Day started?

It started way back in 1970 when a San Francisco activist, John McConnell, and a Wisconsin Senator, Gaylord Nelson, separately asked Americans to join in a grassroots demonstration of support for the environment.

McConnell actually chose the spring equinox that year, March 21. Nelson picked April 22.

Millions of people participated on each date, and Earth Day continues to be widely celebrated with events on both dates – even though April 22 is the date that has become official for Earty Day celebrations everywhere.

Philippine Business for Environmental Stewardship (PBEST) encourages you to not only observe Earth Day once a year, but practice environmental stewardship every single day because it has always been everyone’s responsibility.

Anything to help our environment is a perfect thing to do on Earth Day and every day.

Don’t restrict yourself to just one day a year; learn about how you can make a difference to environmental protection all the time. It’s going to take a lot of work to heal our planet. Leading by example will help others remember that the earth is important every day of the year.
